7 Bad Excuses for Not Taking Advantage of UMH's 60-Day Trial Stay!

It is important that you feel at home in any one of United Methodist Homes’ (UMH) communities. Whether it be our Middlewoods Assisted and Independent Living Communities in Farmington and Newington, our Crosby Commons Assisted Living Community and our Wesley Heights Independent Living Cottages in Shelton, or perhaps our Foxbridge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Memphis, TN, we have your comfort in mind. We invite you to try out, with no commitment, maintenance-free living with our unique 60 day trial stay.
Surprisingly, there are quite a lot of “bad” excuses that we hear from people who are just not sure if they are ready to “take the leap”……..when in reality, the trial stay is the best way to “try on” assisted living without having to “take the leap.”
Not convinced you should consider our 60 day stay program? Here are 7 bad excuses that shouldn’t be holding you back from taking advantage of this great opportunity.
Number 1: “I’m still trying to decide if assisted living is right for me.”
The best way to find out is to try it out! UMH offers several award-winning assisted living communities to choose from. Decide on any one: Crosby Commons Assisted Living Community, Foxbridge Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, Midddlewoods of Farmington and Middlewoods of Newington (both independent and assisted living) and Wesley Heights independent and assisted living community.....whichever best fits your needs and your location. All of our communities provide the very best in relationship-centered care for our residents. Need some assistance? Prefer to live independently? Both of these options and more are available at each of our communities.
Number 2: “I probably don’t qualify for a 60-day stay.”
United Methodist Homes’ senior living facilities are located in several communities within the state of Connecticut and Tennessee. Living in Fairfield County? Consider the communities of Crosby Commons and Wesley Heights on our main campus of Wesley Village in Shelton. Living in the Hartford area? We have two communities in Farmington and Newington that have easy access to major state highways. If any of our locations are convenient for you and your family, you qualify! No other strings attached…..
Number 3: “Why 60 days? A couple of days maybe, but 60 DAYS is a long time.”
We think 60 days is perfect to adapt to a new lifestyle without making a permanent decision. Think about your last vacation……after one week on the cruise ship, you were just getting to know your way around and just beginning to enjoy the excitement of after-dinner shows and regular activities and entertainment. Why just spend a couple of days when you can get a real idea of what life is like with a 60-day stay? Anything can seem like a great option for just a few days…..why not give yourself the chance to make a thoughtful decision after you experience the “real deal”……get to know the staff, try out the food, go out on a trip…..After 60 days of getting to know your neighbors and learning why they made the choice to move, the thought of living life alone at home can often become, honestly, a little bit lonely.
Number 4: “But I need to get around! I have appointments to keep, shopping to do, and errands to run.”
The staff and residents at every UMH community truly go out of their way to make you feel welcomed in your new community. That involves our transportation services as well! You may choose to keep your vehicle in our “driveway” or take advantage of our schedule transportation services. Our drivers are friendly and personable and would be happy to take you to your doctor’s appointment, to the bank to deposit your check, out to lunch with friends (or to the casino!), to the library, pharmacy, and more! They provide door-to-door service and will serve as your escort, providing you with peace of mind so you don’t have to worry.
Number 5: “A 60-day-trial-stay with furnishings, food and amenities…?
It probably doesn’t include everything that would typically be included when renting an apartment?
If you are trying out maintenance-free living at any of our UMH assisted or independent living communities, you can enjoy all of the services and amenities that are included in renting an apartment. That means we will do your laundry, prepare your meals, arrange your transportation and provide you with a variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities, and also take care of cleaning your apartment (no more dusting!). You wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it first…..in the same way, we feel that you deserve a chance to experience our maintenance free lifestyle just as if you were already a resident. We know that finding a home that you feel comfortable in is an even bigger commitment—so, go ahead, try us out first.
Number 6: “I bet they don’t have my favorite meals.”
We understand the importance of food…..as a source of nutrition, and as a source of comfort. Our residents enjoy meals that are prepared according to their specific dietary needs. We also enjoy the support of a dietician who works with us on recipe choices for managing food allergies and intolerances. We also encourage residents to share their recipes with us and happily create new meal choices from their favorite meals!
Number 7: “I don’t make friends easily. Living with a house full of strangers will make me feel uncomfortable—I won’t like it. “
At any UMH community, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and respectful. Our staff and residents will greet you with a smile and be happy to personally show you around. You’ll have the chance to introduce yourself to residents over time, and not all at once. Most residents are surprised at how quickly they make friends, especially when there are new neighbors who are eager to help in any way. We believe you’ll enjoy sharing common interests and find that rather than living with strangers, you really do begin to feel like you have inherited another family!
Our 60-day trial “invitation” is an excellent opportunity to experience a worry-free lifestyle without the commitment—and no excuses allowed.
