How often do you hear inspiring words about aging in our fast-paced, modern world?

So much about our culture is focused on youthfulness, it would seem that we hardly stop to think about the wisdom that comes with many years lived on this earth.

Here are a few witty, practical, and engaging quotes that celebrate healthy aging and provoke thought. Because, after all, “Age is only a matter of mind, and if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”

Compiled are 10 poignant, inspiring quotes from individuals who felt there was much more to life than just passing through it:


Quote 1: “Too many people, when they get old, think they have to live by the calendar.” ~Senator John Glenn (1921- ).

He was the oldest person to board a US space shuttle at age 77.

Quote 2: “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you was [stet]?” ~Satchel Paige (1906 – 1982).

A baseball legend, Paige continued his successful career well into his 60s.

Quote 3: “Those who think they have no time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” ~Edward Stanley (1826 – 1893).

This British statesman advocated for regular physical activity, well ahead of his time. His astute observation withstood the most rigorous tests about daily exercise.

Bauxbaum is an American author and poet who after retirement wrote 11 credit-worthy books, and became an artist, photographer and humorist.
