Meet Lucy Hanelius!
Middlewoods of Farmington resident, Lucy Hanelius or Luce, as she is sometimes referred to, lived in Unionville CT, where she spent most of her life growing up. She attended Union School as a child, and later Farmington High School. Lucy enjoyed spending time playing with friends, and siblings when she was young. Lucy has two brothers Eddy and Albert, and a sister Theodora. After Lucy graduated school she began her career in office work which she continued up until she had kids of her own. Once she had children, Lucy decided to change careers, and go into retail in order to be able to spend more time at home with the kids.
Lucy is very passionate about music and art, she loves to be crafty, loves to draw, and her favorite color is blue. Lucy has various pictures that she drew hanging up in her apartment in addition to pictures of family and friends. She loved to play guitar and piano throughout the years and has a keyboard in her apartment that she likes to play every now and then. Lucy finds excitement in anything to do with music whether it’s singing, playing, learning, or watching performances. She helped start the Bell Choir at Middlewoods at Farmington. The “Belles and Beaux” perform at special events at the community and for nursing homes and memory care communities.
Lucy is very interested in animals, especially dogs. She had a poodle-yorkie mix that she loved very much and really contributed to her love of dogs. Lucy is passionate about learning new things and staying up to date on current events. Growing up, Lucy’s favorite food was pot-roast and she has always valued the importance of family meals. Lucy made sure that when she had kids of her own, they always had dinners together. This is something that she feels helps keep families closely knit.
The best piece of advice Lucy has ever gotten was “to always be yourself”. This is something that Lucy has carried with her to this day. Lucy is a very active, optimistic person, and participates in various activities on a daily basis with her good friend Rose. The thing she loves most about Middlewoods at Farmington is her apartment. She says she is lucky to have a spacious room with big windows including a window in her bathroom!
What advice would Lucy give to anyone looking to move into a community like Middlewoods?
“Be open to it, stay active and make friends. The residents here are one-of-a kind, and everyone is always looking out for one another.” One of the best things about getting old according to Lucy is that she is still alive and staying healthy. The thing Lucy enjoys the most about life, is living it to the fullest!
