When Middlewoods of Farmington resident Barry Gordon’s grandparents fled from Russia, a Russian priest who had befriended them gave them nun’s clothing for a safe escape. Other than that, the only things they took with them were candlesticks and wine cups as they sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. Not liking New York too much, his grandfather moved the family, including Barry’s mother and uncle, to Hartford. It was in Hartford in 1908 where his grandfather purchased a brass Menorah that has been passed down through the generations.

Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center at Wesley Village, offering skilled nursing and short-term rehab, recently participated in a mock facility evacuation. Conducted by the Connecticut Long Term Care Mutual Aid Plan (LTC-MAP), the purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the interaction of the LTC-MAP members in each region in preparation for internal events (fire, power failures) and external events (hurricanes, ice storms, tornadoes, etc.).

Well-known as the “greatest glass artist of modern times,” Dale Chihuly has composed over 600 glass elements. One of his most famous works, the glass sculpture, “Ode to Joy,” hangs proudly in the Autorino Great Hall at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts. Carol Brennan, resident of Middlewoods of Farmington, is a huge fan of Chihuly and has always wanted to see the “Ode to Joy” hanging sculpture. Activities Director, Tanya Janeczko, heard about Carol’s wish and organized a trip for Middlewood’s residents to get a private tour of the Bushnell Center.

We are proud to announce Rose Sadoian, 1 year resident of Middlewoods of Newington, was selected by the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) as a 2018 Resident Accomplishment Award winner. Rose was presented her award at the 3rd Annual Resident Accomplishment Awards Luncheon on April 5th at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville.
