We were thrilled to be able to honor two of our outstanding UMH caregivers at the 2nd Annual Caring Hands Award Luncheon presented by Leading Age CT on Monday, April 8th at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and recognize some of the many special people who work in senior care. Cheers to our team members Claudine Thermidor, a CNA at Bishop Wicke, and Tishana Myers, a CNA at our Middlewoods of Newington Community on receiving this award! See below to read more about Claudine and Tishana…

Paul Hurd, a 92-year old US Army Veteran, has always loved flying. During the war, he spent time in Italy, flying in helicopters and even jumping out of them! Now a resident of Crosby Commons Assisted Living, Paul often takes advantage of the different out trips offered by the community. When visiting the Sikorsky Helicopter Museum, Paul took such an interest in aviation and showed such delight touching the controls of a grounded copter, Kelly Coppola, Recreation Director of Crosby Commons, began to think how she could incorporate Paul’s love of flying into a Journey of Dreams wish and make it possible for him to fly again.

Residents of Crosby Commons, an award-winning senior living community in Shelton, were honored to learn that a jigsaw puzzle they completed together would soon hang proudly in a West Virginia hospital. The 1000 piece puzzle exhibits serviceman across the military and credits veterans with many of the freedoms Americans enjoy today.
