Dreams can be realized in different ways for different people. Some dreams are life-long visions of what we would like to do or accomplish. Some dreams change or evolve over time. Some dreams are discovered in random ways, perhaps by something seen, something heard, or by an opportunity presented. At Wesley Heights, it was a shared conversation and chance circumstance that recently sparked a mutual dream for residents Charlene Deluca and Elizabeth “Betsy” Hoffman.

Well-known as the “greatest glass artist of modern times,” Dale Chihuly has composed over 600 glass elements. One of his most famous works, the glass sculpture, “Ode to Joy,” hangs proudly in the Autorino Great Hall at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts. Carol Brennan, resident of Middlewoods of Farmington, is a huge fan of Chihuly and has always wanted to see the “Ode to Joy” hanging sculpture. Activities Director, Tanya Janeczko, heard about Carol’s wish and organized a trip for Middlewood’s residents to get a private tour of the Bushnell Center.

Paul Hurd, a 92-year old US Army Veteran, has always loved flying. During the war, he spent time in Italy, flying in helicopters and even jumping out of them! Now a resident of Crosby Commons Assisted Living, Paul often takes advantage of the different out trips offered by the community. When visiting the Sikorsky Helicopter Museum, Paul took such an interest in aviation and showed such delight touching the controls of a grounded copter, Kelly Coppola, Recreation Director of Crosby Commons, began to think how she could incorporate Paul’s love of flying into a Journey of Dreams wish and make it possible for him to fly again.

We all know that one person who selflessly spreads happiness and positivity to everyone they know. With this in mind, Crosby Commons Independent and Assisted Living Community decided to show one of their beloved residents just how special they really are. Through Crosby Common’s Journey of Dreams program, a program designed to make the various dreams of residents come true, “All about Peggie Day” was born.
